When we first heard about the assignment we were all very excited and ready to to pour out our ideas. 25 minutes? Plenty of time to plan.....
One idea came after another. Time was rolling and we could not decide on an idea. Until the very last 3 minutes we quickly decided on one of the ideas ( To make a little basket).
When it came down to the building stage we quickly told one of our teammates to grab the scissors. Seeing that we would have a very little chance of getting them we decided to think of another way to cut the straws. We thought of a brilliant idea keys! We were so happy it worked. Now it was time to build that's when the problems started. Our original plan did not work. The whole entire team was all over the egg. We noticed it wasn't getting any where so abandoned our idea and did something totally different. At the end we barely made it. Unfortunately, our little George did not make it.
Evaluation
Step 1: I would say we clearly knew our goals. We were aware of the time constraints and assignment.
Step 2: We skip this step. We all just brainstormed ideas and attempted to build the egg contraption. The jobs were not defined. No team leader was assigned.
Step 3: We did not plan any alternatives during the planning stage. Although we did have come up with alternatives during the building stage.
Step 4: We somewhat allocated jobs. For instance, who would drop the egg and who would draw the design.
Overall, I think our team worked great as a group. We did not have problems with brainstorming or communicating as a team. The group would have been more effective if we distributed our roles more clearly.

awww...poor George. Unfortunately Ihad to say bye to my Monster because like George it didn't make its way through. As for my group, we didn't really think we could construct a contraption to protect an egg from dropping it 10 ft above the floor. At first it just seemed to be an impossible mission. However, after brainstorming some ways to construct the shell protector, we actually thought that it might have worked. Although at the end our Monster still cracked a bit on the side, the outcome was still acceptable.
Seeing what other teams had came up with was amazing. I was fascinated by the different models each team created. And especially many of the models were effective in protecting the eggs from break. From this experiment, I learned one important lesson, and that is to think out of the boc. Sometimes we should take risk even though we had doubt in it. I observed one group constructed a very interesting contraption--looked like a pyramid. When i first saw it, I thought that team would not succeed. But it did.
I still think that my group could have succeeded if we were to do this experiment over again using the same strategy and plan we used. Just a bit of luck might do!!!!
I think your group and our group share a lot of similarities in the planning process. Our groupmates all excited when we first heard the topic. We all had a lot of different ideas. But then we werere not decided on which plan we should use when the time was up. Just like what your team did, we just pick up one of the many ideas that we have and started to build it. Our plan also didn't success at the end. I think a plan sucess or not depends a lot on the planning process. If you have a good planning process, your plan will most likely to success than having a poor planning process. I hope that your team will success next time when doing similar kind of in-class activities.
RIP George!
A basket doesn't sound like a bad idea, with a decent bottom George could have stood a chance, but like you said that you abandoned your original plan and that everyone had their hands on the little guy. Its hard to work with several people in a group because they have tendancies to monopolize. Seperating tasks would have been a better route, the moment I saw too many hands on our egg, I sat back. Well sorry for your loss, hopefully your group does well next time around!
